Established in 1939, the ACA, which is comprised of debt collecting stakeholders (i.e. third-party collection agencies, asset buying companies, law firms, and creditor and vendor affiliates), provides industry-related employees with products, services, and publications. The organization also is the voice for its professionals when it goes before businesses, consumers, and policymakers. In November 2020, the ACA announced its plan to work cooperatively with the new US administration as a part of its mission.
The group will focus on policymaker education and issues related to the accounts receivable management industry. The ACA wants to ensure consumers can access credit and businesses remain open. It is also waiting on a ruling on debt collection from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a government entity that protects the public against predatory financial practices, and is planning to continue its advocacy on pertinent legislative issues.
